Activity 3.2.1 – Natural Resources Review
Natural Resources are anything people take from the environment and use. (Brian A. Jerome & Visual Learning Systems, 2017). The first natural resources are called renewable resources. These can be replaced by nature quickly and are also called inexhaustible. Examples of renewable resources include wind, which can be converted into energy using wind turbines, the sun, which is converted into energy with solar panels, wood, animals, etc. The second natural resource is nonrenewable resources. These cannot be replaced by nature or at least not fast enough to replenish with the demand we need them in. Once they are gone, they are gone forever. Nonrenewable resources include minerals like copper, rocks like marble, and fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are made from decomposing plants and animals. These include oil, gasoline, coal, and natural gas.
Resource sustainability is utilizing natural resources, so they are not overused. (Brian A. Jerome & Visual Learning Systems, 2017). Variables involved in reaching sustainability are overpopulation, overconsumption, distribution, and pollution control. Recycling is a vital method in preserving our natural resources because it allows us to reprocess materials repeatedly. This gives our natural resources more time to replenish themselves, so we do not run out of them rapidly.
